ARNIS ENTABLADO (PANG DEMO) O ARNIS GUERRERO (PANG AWAY)
I agree 100% with Guro Baste Carlos of Carlos Hermanos/Kalis Ilustrisimo post. I admired your work Kapatid along with your brother Doc. Sixto Carlos. Especially the training and teaching principles. I've heard it many times from Mang Andy, Mang Henry and also from my Father in different versions. Mang Henry Evasco Espera used to always mention to me the phrase "You should know the difference between Arnis pang away/kalye (Street) and Arnis pang Demo (Demostration). Know what is more important and should be focused more on training. There are quick and simple techniques that can be used in real fights and Fighting can be both simple and not. Usually simple, easy and direct is all that is needed to end a fight but sometimes not. There is a chance that sometimes simple technique or method won't work or there is a situation that what is needed is adding sophisticated technique that might be complicated to execute but effective, it requires a thorough practice to master it. That's the reason why such principles and techniques are still needed and why you still need to practice a lot to Master it. Tatay Andy Abrian has the same saying "Choose to study the Arnis Guerrero (for fighting) more than the Arnis Entablado. It will help you especially when the opportunity comes and you need to fight. Do the Arnis Entablado (Stage) when you need to demo to attract people. Use fancy techniques to get their attention and amaze them specially if you want to get a student. But do not confused yourself between the two, you need to choose which one you will train more on your regular training" My Dad's word (a former boxer in his time). Iba ang Boxing sa labas kesa sa Boxing sa ring at iba rin yung pang sayaw sayaw o pang pakita lang. (Boxing outside is different than Boxing in the ring and the boxing for fitness like a dance is also different). There are small differences but you must understand the needs of each one so you can understand how to adjust when in need. In dance or non sports training, you want to be fit or you want to impress people when demoing, you want to look cool. Sports are also different. In the ring there's always a third man to break you up and judges to stop the fight and tell you who win. On the street it's different. There are bigger chance that you will fight not only your opponent but also his friends and mostly weapons are involved so you need to learn how to adapt quickly between the two realm. You can only do that if you know the differences. When you understand the difference between demo and reality your training will be different, and knowing what you want and need in you chosen path. That's where you focus your training. If your reality or want is to be good at Sport. Accept it and train for it, if your focus is Fitness then train for fitness. When you focus on Self Protection, that's where you focus more. Don't fool yourself claiming that your training is focused on one thing but your training and teaching principles or demo are different. Don't confuse yourself. Good advice from someone i forgot the name. Fighting, playing, and Dancing is different. They can blend but you need to know why you train, your goal to learn and achieve that will affect how you train. Each ine requires different training method to add (Mental Training, Conditioning, Attack to counter, etc...) These three, especially my Father and Mang Henry, shaped me into what I am today, especially in teaching. Added with some people I've met and trained (my oriental arts era), the research I've done. Borriwing principles and method I've learned from other people who have actually done it on real life. From friends in FMA, Martial Arts world and Combative world, with their research and experience that I like, i will borrowed train and test it if its good i'll use it. It made me who I am as teacher and practitioner of the Art today. Pugay and maraming salamat po!

"The Best Defense is a Good Offense because the only Real Defense is Active Defense" - Mao Zedong.
Meaning Defense for the purpose of Counter Attacking and taking Offensive with proper Combat Aggressive Mindset often succeed on Destroying the enemy's plan of or ability to attack. FMA used this principle a lot, Armed or Unarmed. "Palagi kang una at palaging handa, Huwag mong bigyan ng pagkakataon yung kalaban mo na umatake o bumawi pa. Simple lang yan parang 1,2,3 tapos agad (You are always first and always ready, Don't give your opponent a chance to attack or recover. It's as simple as 1,2,3 and it's done immediately)" - PG Henry Espera, Founder and Grand master of Rapido Realismo Kali. This is our Main Principles and Fighting Strategy.
