Affiliation Program
Study group program
A study group is a group of likeminded people (either Friends, family, acquaintances, etc.) that wanted to get together devoted to helping each other get better studying RRK. For people who don’t have an experienced and or certified RRK Training Group or Instructor close in their area, or they wanted to pursue learning something that is not offered by their group or school, or simply they want to get in more training time than is being offered, or you are a Martial Arts Instructor/School Owner who wanted to learn and add another program, or simply you wanted to learn and teach Rapido Realsimo Kali, then a study group is a great way to go and start.
This can be in 2 ways:
ONLINE
IN PERSON (if you are in the Philippines)
BOTH ONLINE AND IN PERSON
The Study Group can be a closed door deal or you can slightly open to others. Group of People get together and pay for the hire of the training location, gear and equipment, purchase of the online course, Instructors Fees (Online or In Person).
The Study Group Leader
The study group leaders are NOT instructors or Tagapagsanay (trainers), they are NOT to teach the curriculum on their own. They MUST instead use the online RRK Lessons as their primary source of instruction
A study group member is NOT qualified or ranked in RRK to teach others for financial gain! This is literally a group and place to train in RRK Materials and method, officially sanctioned by RRKIA, Punong Guro Henry E. Espera, and/or Guro Isagani Abon. This is what you are paying an affiliate fee for.
There are certain requirements to be met by a potential study group leader.
Requirements:
Here are the steps that can help you get off on the right foot:
1. Create a Vision and Goals for Your Group
Why do you want to start a group, what do you want to achieve in your group? How will you know when you’re successful? What is the feeling that you want to have? You should be able to easily summarize the overarching goal of your group in a sentence or a bullet point or three. Create a goal for every month.
2. Training Plan and Structure
Planning and Structuring is very important, so you need to create one for the group, you may not be leading a formal class but if you want to make the most of your time you should have a formal training structure.
In a one and a half hour session I recommend:
10 minutes warm-up.
15 Minutes reviewing past lesson
20 minutes working on new material
20 minutes drilling
20 minutes integration/sparring games/free-sparring.
And soon
10 minutes Cool Down
3. Rules and Safety
Have rules of comportment that keep you and others safe and align with your goals. Even if your group is new and informal. Safety is very essential in training, it is the most vital central focus for your long-term growth of a group. Make sure you have rules for how everyone is expected to conduct themselves set down and agreed to before you pick up weapons or make contact with a partner. And every member, especially the group leader must abide the RRK Rules and Regulations as well as the Training Protocol.
Rules such as:
3. Be Welcoming But Not Undiscerning
Make the door open for anyone who can get on board with your goals and play by your rules. A clear structure allows you to welcome in others while maintaining a safe space that stays welcoming to those who are already part of your group.
4. Have a Source
Either train In Person or Online Training. You can either seek for Instructors guide along with the Online Course Material or plainly the Online Course as your source.
5. Facilitate, Don’t Teach
The goal of a study group is for everyone to learn together and grow together. If you’re the organizer, make sure that you keep your ego out of the picture and that you approach each session as an equal and a student along with the others in your group. Not only will this keep unnecessary conflict out of the picture, you will find that you can learn much faster when you allow yourself to work with everyone else, rather than trying to keep a station above your peers.
A great way to share the load and keep things on even footing is to take turns in the role of facilitator and session planner. This also makes the group much more resilient to changes in membership.
6. Always Start On Time
Starting on time says to you and to others: “We’re here to make the most of our time together.” It sets the tone for all dimensions of your group and represents a care and attention for detail that is essential to good martial practice.
7. Be Consistent
If you are going to practice every Tuesday afternoon, practice every Tuesday afternoon. Have a backup plan if the organizer or key holder is sick. Being consistent helps keep everyone accountable and it makes it far easier to stay on track for long-term development. If someone shows up only to find that session was cancelled it erodes their trust and makes it easier to make excuses not to show up: “Maybe the session won’t even be on today.”
8. Find an All Weather Space (or Spaces)
An important key to staying consistent is having somewhere that allows you to practice regardless of the weather. As much as possible find a good place to train whatever the weather is.
9. Build a System for Integrating New Members
Once your group has been going for a while it can be intimidating for someone new to join, especially if there is not a defined route for them to do so. I recommend creating a formal beginner’s orientation program. Have it take place over 2-4 sessions and run parallel to your regular group, or just in advance. The orientation should:
10. Introduce a new person to your vision, goals, and rules.
Give them the fundamentals of the RRK system (posture, stance, movement, and footwork).
Orient them to your language (what are the technical and training terms you we use in your group or in RRK?).
Start sharing them the foundational drills and exercises (they may practice them at a lower level but they can now join the main body of your practice).
Having a base of exercises whose level can be easily adapted to the skill level of a partner (i.e. Partner A is practicing an exercise at level 1 and Partner B can practice the same exercise but at level 5) makes it far easier to have varying levels of skill in your group.
You can use the RRK Logo and have your Study Group advertised on the RRK Website as an official place/group to join and study! Usually this is guys and girls that want to train RRK but have no access to an Instructor, Training Group or Seminar.
You can always send a video of your training, send a question, ask for correction, or and possible additional details. Instructor can send you written explanations, another video for clarity of the lesson, and/or recommending a lesson or media for deep understanding. This can effectively lead to faster qualification as an RRK student or Instructor should anyone want to take that route in the future. This is actually part of the Instructor Development Program.
How it works
To become an official RRK study group, The person/s starting the group must first become a member of the RRK this is (sample $35) a year and then pay a yearly Affiliate/Study Group fee of ($200) and must enrolled in our Online Course starting on our fundamental course. Both are payable through wired transfer, Paypal.
Once a member you have the option down the line to be graded as an RRK Student and will be requested to send a Photo, Club Name incorporating the RRK Logo as well contact details for those that would like to train within your area.
This can be in 2 ways:
ONLINE
- The Group will Study the RRK Online Course as the official resources.
- The Group will train Monthly through Live Online Training (Zoom or other ways)
IN PERSON (if you are in the Philippines)
- Certified Instructor will visit your Study Group and will share material that you can practice for a Month or more.
- Your group or the Group Leader will visit train with a Certified Instructor or the RRK Luneta once a month or at least every 2 months.
BOTH ONLINE AND IN PERSON
- This will definitely the best choice if you wanted to learn more and understand it.
The Study Group can be a closed door deal or you can slightly open to others. Group of People get together and pay for the hire of the training location, gear and equipment, purchase of the online course, Instructors Fees (Online or In Person).
